Testimonials

"I crawled to Laura in the darkest days of my PhD. That was around the end of my first year PhD when my main supervisor suddenly left while my co-supervisors were in different universities. Not long after that, the pandemic came and I was unable to visit any care home to collect my data. My research stuck, I was in trauma, and my health was heavily deteriorated. Laura has been an exceptional mentor to me, both in academia and in life. She listened closely and gave me a series of helpful advice. Laura was a former PhD in my research centre, our journeys were similar in many ways, and she kindly shared her own experiences which were extremely valuable to me. The most precious parts of the mentoring were strengthening my mentality and shaping me a better version of myself rather than transforming me to anyone else’s perspective. Laura has always been a trustworthy supporter who walked beside me through the PhD journey, until I passed my Viva (with minor corrections). Without Laura, I don’t think I can even submit my thesis. I cannot thank her enough for her exceptional patience, knowledge, and kindness." Bob Nguyen (PhD Student, Centre for Intelligent Healthcare, Coventry University)

"Laura talked me through qualitative data in a way that was clear and understandable. There was no academic jargon, and Laura provided practical tips, using my own research topic for examples, on how to begin tackling the analysis. I cannot express enough how valuable and worthwhile this coaching with Laura was. It was the breakthrough I needed. Within 2 days I had analysed all my Qual data, and began writing it up. And do you know what – I loved the process and loved the richness the data has bought to my research. Thank you laura." Pauline [Pseudonym]

"I met Laura Wilde at the end of the second year of my PhD, and her guidance has kept me on track and in a positive frame of mind for the duration. I can categorically attribute my good mental health throughout the process to Laura's input. She is kind, knowledgeable, generous with her time and expertise, and a consummate professional. I don't know how I would've done it without her." R D Postlethwaite (PhD Candidate)

FAQ

I work with a wide range of individuals, including:

  • PhD students navigating the challenges of research and academic life.
  • Early-career researchers building confidence, overcoming obstacles, or developing key skills.
  • Students and professionals at various stages of their academic or personal journeys.

My clients share a desire to grow, take ownership of their paths, and achieve their goals with clarity and confidence.

I’m a supportive and practical coach who empowers clients to find their own solutions. Whether you need help overcoming impostor syndrome, preparing for a viva, or balancing a demanding academic life, my tailored approach combines structured strategies with empathy to help you succeed.

Each coaching session lasts 50 minutes, giving us plenty of time to explore your goals, address challenges, and plan actionable steps forward.

Think of coaching as an investment in your future. The clarity, confidence, and skills you gain can save time, reduce stress, and help you achieve your goals more effectively. I offer flexible payment options and packages to make coaching more accessible. Let’s chat about your needs to see how we can make it work for you.

Every client is unique. I take the time to understand your goals, challenges, and preferences. Together, we’ll create a plan that focuses on your needs, whether that’s improving time management, preparing for a viva, or building confidence in your research. Flexibility is key, and we’ll adjust the approach as needed.

To make the most of coaching, I recommend meeting frequently—ideally no more than two weeks apart. This helps maintain momentum, keeps us on track, and ensures the process is as effective as possible. Of course, I’m happy to work flexibly to accommodate your needs.

Viva preparation requires a deep understanding of your thesis and research journey, which takes time to develop. Working with existing coachees allows us to build rapport and ensures I’m familiar with your topic and needs. If you’re new and interested in viva support, get in touch to discuss a tailored package.

Life happens! I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to reschedule. We’ll work together to find a new time that works for both of us.

Yes! I offer standalone sessions for specific needs, such as a single coaching session or a mock viva. Let me know what you’re looking for, and we’ll find the best solution.

I can do both! If you’re based in Coventry, I’m happy to meet in person. For other locations, additional travel costs may apply. I also offer online coaching via Microsoft Teams, which is flexible, convenient, and just as effective.

Yes, I understand that plans change. My cancellation and refund policy is shared in the coaching agreement. Generally, I ask for 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or 24 hours for rescheduling to avoid charges.

As part of coaching, I help you reflect on your work, identify areas for improvement, and build confidence in presenting your ideas. For detailed written feedback, you may want to explore my proofreading or consulting services, which pair perfectly with coaching.

Confidentiality is at the heart of coaching. Everything we discuss stays between us, except in rare cases where I’m legally required to report something (e.g., safeguarding concerns). This ensures you can share openly and honestly.

Coaching is future-focused and goal-oriented, helping you move forward in specific areas like academic challenges, confidence, or time management. Therapy, by contrast, often addresses past experiences and mental health conditions. Coaching isn’t a substitute for therapy, but I work sensitively with clients experiencing anxiety or overwhelm.

Coaching is a collaborative process, and I encourage open communication. If you’re unsure about your progress, let me know so we can adjust the plan. Your growth and satisfaction are my priorities.

Not at all! You can start with a single session to see if coaching feels right for you. Many clients prefer packages for better value and continuity, but I’m happy to adapt to your needs.

That’s perfectly fine! Coaching is flexible and evolves with you. If your priorities shift, we’ll revisit your goals and adapt the sessions to ensure they continue to meet your needs.

While I can’t guarantee specific outcomes (your success depends on your commitment and actions), I promise a dedicated partnership focused on helping you gain clarity, confidence, and actionable strategies to achieve your goals.

I bring extensive experience in academia, research, and personal development, paired with a compassionate, tailored approach. My goal is to empower you to overcome challenges and achieve your potential while creating a supportive, structured framework for real progress.
